Which JSON Is It? Plugins for your WordPress Site

Using JSON, especially for infinite scrolling, is a great idea. However, there are so many plugins that add the REST API to your WordPress site. Let’s take a look at some of the plugins available. Keep in mind that the JSON REST API is slated to release with WordPress 4.1; by then, the functionality will be added to the WordPress core! Although not listed, Jetpack also comes with its own JSON/REST API, although it might be discontinued by the people at Automattic after 4.1’s release.

In a future post, we are going to take a look at how you can use the REST API and how to make a GET request using jQuery. For now, let’s take a look at three plugins that you can use for working with REST.

JSON REST API (WP API)

JSON REST API is the plugin that will be included with WordPress 4.1’s release. This is the plugin that you should, most likely, be using since it will become part of WordPress.

JSON API

JSON API by dphiffer has been around for some time and it’s a very well-known and widely used plugin; sadly, it has not been updated for a while.

Thermal API

thermal

Thermal API, written by voceplatforms, takes the power of WP_Query and gives it to JSON REST. Thermal API claims to be a truly responsive application. You can read the documentation as well.
